ZOO Accent in Białystok

The Akcent ZOO in Białystok is a small zoo covering an area of 3 hectares, located in the picturesque Constitution of May 3rd Park. Opened in the 1960s, it was initially intended as a temporary home for animals but evolved into a permanent attraction, with its main focus being the presentation of native fauna. Between 2010 and 2012, some of the animals were relocated to other zoos, and today visitors can encounter 13 species of mammals and 9 species of birds, including brown bears, gray wolves, Eurasian lynxes, and European bison. The zoo offers a chance to admire both animals native to Poland and exotic species, making each visit diverse and engaging. From an architectural perspective, the park underwent modernization, completed in December 2012, which introduced new enclosures and visitor amenities, including a mini-zoo. The modernization cost approximately 9 million Polish złoty. New enclosures were built for bison, wolves, bears, mouflons, and wild boars, significantly improving the animals' living conditions with more space and appropriate habitats. The upgraded areas also feature comfortable walking paths, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable visit. All these elements make Akcent ZOO not only an educational destination but also a recreational one. Visitors can admire the animals free of charge, attracting a wide audience. The zoo thrives not only due to its diverse collection of animals but also because of the wild species inhabiting the park, such as squirrels and various bird species. It is worth noting that in the past, the zoo was home to as many as 50 species simultaneously, including lions, raccoons, and peacocks, reflecting its rich history and the challenges it has faced over the years.
