wikipedia
Łobez, known in German as Labes, is a town located in northwestern Poland, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, on the Rega River. The history of Łobez dates back to the early Middle Ages, when a defensive stronghold of the Pomeranians was established. The town was granted city rights in 1275 by the will of the Borków family, which is credited with many historical events associated with Łobez. In the 14th century, the community of Łobez was governed by a mayor and a city council, and the town was surrounded by walls that survived until the 18th century. Historic buildings, such as the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the half-timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, highlight the architectural richness of the town. Łobez is also known for the Łobez Mound and the Roland Monument, dedicated to the residents who fell in World War I, as well as the Pomeranian Stud Farm, where the famous white horses of Pomerania were bred. The town has its cultural traditions, such as the "Łobez Easter Baba" and Łobziuki, an event promoting local art and creativity. Łobez is home to numerous sports clubs, and the history of sports in the town dates back to the 19th century, when the first sports associations were established. Łobez suffered significant destruction during World War II, when the town was occupied by the Red Army in March 1945. After the war, the German population was displaced, and the town was resettled by Poles and other ethnic groups, which had a significant impact on the demography and culture of the region. Today, Łobez is an important local center with active cultural, sports, and educational life, boasting a rich history and natural diversity, making it an attractive place to visit.
