Godkowo, formerly known as the Dobry Commune, is a rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, located in Elbląg County. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Elbląg Voivodeship. The administrative seat of the municipality is the village of Godkowo. According to demographic data, the population was 3,338 in 2004, which decreased to 3,011 by 2019. The municipality covers an area of 166.74 km², dominated by agricultural land (71%) and forests (20%). Godkowo is situated on the Warmian Plain and the Iława Lake District, with the highest point being Czubatka Hill (169 meters above sea level). The area is traversed by rivers such as Wąska, Dobrska Struga, and Pasłęka, and includes lakes like Zimnochy and Okonie. The region features numerous protected areas, including the Beaver Sanctuary on the Pasłęka River and Natura 2000 sites such as Uroczysko Markowo and the Pasłęka Valley. The municipality comprises several villages, including Godkowo, Dąbkowo, Ząbrowiec, as well as others like Grużajny, Klekotki, and Zimnochy. It borders the municipalities of Miłakowo, Morąg, Orneta, Pasłęk, and Wilczęta. Architecturally, the area is known for its rural landscapes, featuring stone structures and traditional farmhouses that reflect local culture. Historically, the municipality is part of Warmia, a region with a rich history shaped by various cultural influences, from the Old Prussians and Germans to Poles.
