wikipedia
The Krynica Morska Lighthouse, located on the Vistula Spit in Krynica Morska, is an important landmark on Poland's Baltic coast. It was built in 1895 to aid navigation between Hel and Piława. Its conical structure, standing 26.5 meters tall, is distinguished by its elegant proportions—with a base diameter of 6 meters and a top diameter of 4.5 meters. The lighthouse is managed by the Maritime Office in Gdyni and is powered by two 1000 W bulbs, providing a light range of up to 18 nautical miles. Its light is designed with a distinctive pattern of intense flashes, making it easily recognizable to sailors. The lighthouse's history is dramatic; it was destroyed during wartime in 1945, and the previous brick tower lay in ruins. After nearly three years without navigational markings, a temporary light was installed in 1948, but the new lighthouse was not completed until 1951, based on a design by Professor Stanisław Puzyna. An interesting fact is that the lighthouse served as a radio beacon from 1957 to 1997, transmitting signals in Morse code. The Krynica Morska Lighthouse is also featured on a Polish postage stamp, highlighting its cultural and touristic significance. Additionally, at an elevation of 53 meters above sea level, it hosts a shore station of the AIS-PL system, underscoring its modern role in monitoring ship traffic in Polish waters. The lighthouse also offers beautiful views of the Vistula Lagoon, adding to its unique charm.
