Orneta is an urban-rural municipality located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within the Lidzbark County, with the town of Orneta serving as its administrative seat. Historically, the municipality was part of the Elbląg Voivodeship between 1975 and 1998. According to data from 2004, the population of the municipality was 12,793, but by the end of 2019, this number had decreased to 11,909. The municipality covers an area of 244.13 km², of which 56% is agricultural land and 31% is forested. The demographic structure of the municipality includes numerous village administrative units, such as Augustyny, Chwalęcin, Dąbrówka, and Karbowo, as well as settlements without official village status, like Bogatyńskie and Lejławki Małe. The area features interesting architectural landmarks, including historic churches and buildings that form part of the local cultural heritage. A notable aspect of the region is its cultural diversity and medieval history, making it a place rich in traditions and historical events.
