Pruchnik, located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, is a town with a rich history dating back to the 14th century, when it was established as a private noble town. It is situated in the picturesque area along the Mleczka River, surrounded by the hills of the Dynowskie Foothills. The town is characterized by its preserved spatial layout with a market square and wooden houses with arcades, many of which date back to the 18th century. Modern-day Pruchnik retains its unique architecture, including the town hall and numerous wooden houses, as well as memorial sites such as the devastated Jewish cemetery. The Jewish community played an important role in Pruchnik's history, with their presence documented since the 16th century. In the 20th century, tragedy struck during the Holocaust, when Jewish residents were deported and murdered by the Germans. After the war, Pruchnik was home to two religious communities: Catholic and Greek Catholic, as well as remnants of Jewish culture. The culture of Pruchnik is reflected in traditional practices, such as the ritual of burning a Judas effigy, which has sparked controversy due to its antisemitic associations. The town also serves as a sports center, home to the football club Start Pruchnik. Pruchnik hosts markets and local cultural events, and its history is filled with dramatic events and passionate traditions, making it a place with an interesting and complex identity. The town regained its municipal rights in 2011, and in recent years, it has become a unique point on the map of Podkarpacie, blending elements of tradition with modernity.
