"Pan Tadeusz" Museum

The Pan Tadeusz Museum, part of the Ossoliński National Institute, is located in Wrocław in the historic Kamienica Pod Złotym Słońcem (Under the Golden Sun Tenement House), which opened to the public on April 23, 2016. Its establishment was the result of a thorough renovation of the building that began in 2007. The museum received support from Norwegian and EEA funds, as well as Polish resources and donations from the residents of Wrocław. The museum features two permanent exhibitions: "The Manuscript of Pan Tadeusz" and "Mission: Poland." The first showcases the only existing manuscript of Adam Mickiewicz's masterpiece, along with its historical context, displaying hundreds of artifacts including manuscripts, prints, and multimedia. The second exhibition, "Mission: Poland," tells the story of the generation that fought for Poland's independence during World War II, focusing on the lives of Jan Nowak-Jeziorański and Władysław Bartoszewski. The museum gained international recognition by receiving a special distinction from the jury of the European Museum of the Year Award in 2019. Currently, work is underway to prepare a third exhibition dedicated to Tadeusz Różewicz, highlighting his importance to 20th-century Polish literature. The museum places strong emphasis on educational activities, offering diverse lessons and workshops that connect history with the present, allowing young people to develop spiritually and intellectually. It also hosts a rich program of temporary exhibitions, expanding its offerings and engaging the local community. The architecture of the building housing the museum is a significant part of the city's landscape and reflects the traditions of Polish culture. Its extensive collections and diverse events solidify the Pan Tadeusz Museum's role as an important cultural and educational center in Wrocław.
