wikipedia
Łężany is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, located in Kętrzyn County, known for its rich history dating back to 1359. The village features a palace built around 1910 in the Neo-Baroque style, surrounded by a landscape park. The palace's architecture is characterized by four stories on the northwestern side, an elegant portico, and decorative elements such as stuccowork, marble fireplaces, and an ornately decorated ballroom. Over the years, the palace served as a recreational center and is currently managed by the University of Olsztyn, which opens it to visitors. Łężany also houses the Fischer family mausoleum, historic tombstones, and cemeteries that reflect the traditions of past local communities. The village played an important role in the history of Warmia, with its founder, Bishop Fabian Luzjański[i], being a notable figure. In the 19th century, the Łężany estate covered 628 hectares, and since 1954, it has been the seat of an Agricultural Experimental Station. Interestingly, student internships were organized in Łężany, attracting many students from military-agricultural backgrounds, enriching the local cultural landscape. In addition to agricultural traditions, the village was a place where local customs and traditions, such as falconry, were cultivated, and conditioning camps for athletes were held. Łężany was also home to Warmian families, contributing to the preservation of authentic local traditions. These events and figures shape the unique character of Łężany as a place where history, architecture, and culture coexist, creating a rich regional heritage.
