wikipedia
Łańcut Castle, also known as the Lubomirski and Potocki Castle, is a historic aristocratic residence located in Łańcut, in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. It houses the Museum – Łańcut Castle, which was designated a Historic Monument in 2005. The history of the castle dates back to the second half of the 16th century, when a defensive tower was originally built by the Pilecki family. In the 17th century, under the ownership of the Stadnicki family, the castle was transformed and expanded. The most significant reconstruction took place between 1629 and 1641, designed by Maciej Trapola, when the castle was surrounded by powerful fortifications that effectively defended it against Swedish attacks. Throughout its history, the castle changed hands among various owners, including Stanisław and Izabela Lubomirski, and later Alfred and Artur Potocki. It remained undamaged during World War II and was converted into a museum after the war, which now conducts educational and cultural activities. The castle is renowned for hosting the Music Festival, held continuously since 1960, attracting classical music enthusiasts. Architecturally, the castle stands out for its preserved interiors, including the Ballroom, the Great Dining Room, and the Sculpture Gallery, all richly furnished and adorned with valuable artworks, such as a self-portrait by Sofonisba Anguissola. The surrounding park, designed in the style of an English landscape garden with historic gardens and structures, underwent numerous modernizations, primarily during the time of Izabela Lubomirska. An interesting fact is that scenes from well-known Polish films were shot at the castle, and in 1993, commemorative coins featuring the castle’s image were issued. The castle also serves representative functions, hosting important events and symposia. Since 2023, the museum has been directed by Dr. Piotr Szopa.
