wikipedia
Ślesin is a town in Poland, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Konin County, on the shores of Ślesińskie and Mikorzyńskie Lakes. The history of the settlement dates back to 1231, when it was mentioned in a document by Duke Konrad I of Masovia. In 1358, it was granted town rights under the Środa law, and its coat of arms and trade privileges contributed to local development. Over the centuries, Ślesin was under the rule of the bishops of Poznań, which influenced its economic growth, although the town never expanded significantly in size or population. In the 17th century, it was destroyed by the Swedes, and in the 18th century, it suffered from floods. From 1793, it was part of the Prussian Partition, then went through the period of the Duchy of Warsaw, and after 1815 became part of the Kingdom of Poland. In the 20th century, Ślesin experienced dynamic development, especially after regaining independence in 1918. Infrastructure was revitalized, and the town gained new buildings, including a triumphal arch from 1812 commemorating Napoleon. World War II brought suffering to the residents and destruction, as the town fell under German occupation. After the war, Ślesin underwent reconstruction and modernization, and during the Polish People's Republic, new housing estates and public facilities were added. Key tourist attractions include the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Nicholas, the triumphal arch, a monument honoring the victims of World War II, and the beautiful lakes that attract visitors. The "Polsport" sports and recreation center and the newly built marina offer a rich array of activities for enthusiasts of active leisure. In 2012, the market square was modernized, and a boulevard along the lake was created, featuring a playground, outdoor gym, and skatepark. Sports clubs are active in Ślesin, such as "UKS Delfin," which focuses on kayak polo, and "LKS Ślesin" with its football section. Interestingly, the name Ślesin derives from the Szlesza family, and the town maintained a tradition of trading in feathers and feather products. Modern Ślesin blends tradition with modernity, offering residents and tourists diverse attractions, including the planned Ślesin Thermal Baths, which have the potential to attract visitors thanks to geothermal waters. The town boasts a rich cultural heritage, successfully combining history with contemporary development, making it an interesting place to visit.
