wikipedia
Środa Śląska, formerly known as Neumarkt, is a small town with a rich railway history. The railway station, currently a passenger stop with a loading facility, is located on the Wrocław Muchobór–Gubinek line. The railway reached the Środa Śląska area in 1843–1844, and the station became one of the key trading points between Wrocław and Legnica. Despite its importance, the station was located about 4 kilometers from the town center, which negatively impacted its competitiveness compared to other localities. In 1926, a connecting railway line was built to link the station with the town center, but after World War II, due to the growth of motorization, rail transport was discontinued in 1966. The station's architecture reflects classicism, characteristic of public utility buildings of that era, although much of the decoration has been removed over time. Between 2006 and 2008, the station underwent modernization, during which the infrastructure was improved and adapted for remote control. Today, there are two platforms that are accessible for people with limited mobility, and the station is served by local bus lines synchronized with train departures. It is also worth noting that the station building complex, including signal boxes, is listed in the provincial register of historical monuments, highlighting the historical significance of this place. Środa Śląska combines railway tradition with local transport development, making it an important point on the railway map of Lower Silesia.
