The Środa Śląska municipality, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is a significant transportation hub with key routes such as National Road 94 connecting Gliwice with Wrocław and Szczecin, and Provincial Road 346 leading to Oława. The municipality benefits from convenient access to the Dresden–Wrocław–Kyiv motorway, making it an attractive location for both residents and tourists. The E-30 Wrocław–Zgorzelec–Dresden railway line further underscores its transportation importance. The municipality comprises several localities, including Środa Śląska, Szczepanów, Rakoszyce, Ogrodnica, Cesarzowice, and Chwalimierz. Demographically, the population was 18,998 in 2004 and increased to 19,908 by 2020. The total area of the municipality is 214.93 km², of which 73% is agricultural land and 17% is forested. Środa Śląska accounts for 30.54% of the area of Środa Śląska County. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Wrocław Voivodeship.
