Świnica

Świnica, a pivotal peak in the High Tatras, is distinguished by its two summits, which differ in height by 11 meters. It marks the beginning of the main ridge of the High Tatras and is a popular destination among tourists, offering breathtaking views. The nature around Świnica is rich in plant species, including the rare Saussurea porcii. The name Świnica likely derives from the massif's shape, which resembles a pig. For centuries, the peak has inspired both alpinists and writers; the first unsuccessful attempts to climb it date back to the 18th century, and the first successful ascent was made by Eugeniusz Janota in 1867. Over the years, due to increasing tourist traffic, the number of accidents has risen, prompting authorities to impose restrictions on some trails.
