12th Mechanized Brigade

The 12th Mechanized Brigade named after General Józef Haller (12 BZ) is one of the most modern units of the Polish Armed Forces, established in 1996 on the basis of the 5th Mechanized Regiment. It is stationed in Szczecin and Stargard, and its traditions date back to, among others, the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Legions and units from the era of the Second Polish Republic. The brigade has a rich heritage, with traditional observances such as the celebration of its holiday on May 15, commemorating the return of the Polish Army in France and the formation of the 12th Infantry Division. Its symbols include a white standard and a commemorative badge that references the history of the Border Rifles regiments. In terms of armament, the 12 BZ is equipped with modern hardware such as Rosomak armored transporters, Rak mortars, and various rocket systems. The brigade actively participates in international exercises and peacekeeping missions, as well as in Polish Military Contingents, operating in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Lebanon. Thanks to its organizational structure, which consists of multiple battalions and squadrons, the 12 BZ demonstrates significant achievements in combat training and has earned numerous distinctions and honorary titles. The brigade's history also includes tragic events in which soldiers lost their lives during foreign missions. The unit's commanders have changed over the years, and it is currently led by Brigadier General Dariusz Czekaj. The 12th Mechanized Brigade, with its rich heritage and continuous development, is a key component of the Polish land forces, contributing to national defense and international military cooperation.
