Adam Mickiewicz University Botanical Garden in Poznań

The Adam Mickiewicz University Botanical Garden in Poznań, located in the Ogrody district, is an important scientific and educational institution as well as an attractive public park. It was established on the initiative of Professor Rudolf Boettner as a School Botanical Garden between 1922 and 1925, with its grand opening taking place in 1925. Over the years, the garden has undergone numerous changes, both in terms of management and expansion. After World War II, it was taken over by the University of Poznań, and in 1955 it adopted its current name. The garden covers an area of approximately 19 hectares and is home to rich plant collections, which include over 2,500 taxa of tropical plants, succulents, aquatic and rare plants, as well as a unique alpine garden. Among its architectural attractions is a modern Exhibition and Education Pavilion, which serves exhibition and educational purposes. Within the garden, visitors can admire sculptures such as "Two Under an Umbrella" by Józef Kopczyński and a ballerina-shaped fountain designed by Małgorzata Węcławska. A particularly fascinating feature is the presence of an erratic boulder, the largest in the garden, which arrived from Scandinavia and weighs 130 tons. The garden hosts numerous educational activities and is open to the general public, attracting up to several tens of thousands of visitors annually. For botany and ecology enthusiasts, it is not only a place for learning but also for relaxation in a beautifully arranged natural environment. The prohibition of cycling and the availability of a bicycle parking area near the main entrance reflect the garden's commitment to visitor safety and comfort. It is also worth noting that the garden publishes the Index Seminum, enabling seed exchange with other botanical gardens around the world, which highlights its international significance in the fields of biodiversity and species conservation.
