Gniew is an urban-rural municipality located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Tczew County. The town of Gniew, which serves as the municipal seat, boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, when a defensive stronghold operated here, and later a castle. Gniew Castle, built by the Teutonic Knights, is one of the region's most important historical monuments and a major tourist attraction, drawing history and architecture enthusiasts. The municipality consists of 19 village districts, including Brody Pomorskie, Ciepłe, and Wielkie Walichnowy, and covers an area of 194.78 km². The land use is dominated by agricultural areas (64%) and forests (20%). According to demographic data, in 2004, the municipality had a population of 15,563. The area also features valuable natural sites, including four nature reserves: Opalenie Dolne, Opalenie Górne, Wiosło Duże, and Wiosło Małe, reflecting the richness of local flora and fauna.
