wikipedia
The Bureau of Art Exhibitions (Biuro Wystaw Artystycznych, BWA) in Zielona Góra is a contemporary art gallery established in 1965 on the initiative of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (Związek Polskich Artystów Plastyków). It currently operates as a municipal gallery. A significant moment in the gallery's history was its brief closure in 1981 due to political reasons. Since its inception, the BWA has organized the Golden Grape (Złote Grono) event, which became a key platform for the presentation of conceptual art in Poland. The third edition of this event was notable for the exhibition "Space and Expression" (Przestrzeń i wyraz), which featured participants such as members of the Paris-based Groupe International d'Architecture Prospective and renowned artists Zofia and Oskar Hansen. Between 1985 and 1996, the gallery hosted the Biennale of New Art (Biennale Sztuki Nowej), which was revived in 2020 as the Zielona Góra Biennale. Architecturally, the gallery building was designed by Janusz Wyczałkowski, and its facade features a relief by Marian Szpakowski, who was one of the initiators of the Golden Grape. Thanks to its rich history and events, the gallery holds significant importance for Polish contemporary art and cultural development in the region.
