Lubusz Voivodeship

The Lubusz Voivodeship, established in 1999, is located in western Poland and encompasses the territories of the former Gorzów and Zielona Góra voivodeships. Its capitals are Gorzów Wielkopolski and Zielona Góra. The region is characterized by a rich history, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages when the administrative center was the town of Lubusz. The historical regions that make up the voivodeship include Lubusz Land, Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, and Lower Lusatia. Despite its small population, Lubusz has the highest forest coverage in Poland – as much as 49.3% of its area is covered by forests. From a natural perspective, the region stands out with national parks such as Drawa National Park and the Warta Mouth National Park, as well as numerous nature reserves. The architecture of the region is a blend of styles, featuring both Gothic and Baroque elements, with numerous castles, palaces, and churches. Culturally, the voivodeship focuses on development through the organization of various events, including the Winobranie (Wine Harvest) in Zielona Góra, which attracts tourists and wine enthusiasts. The Lubusz Voivodeship is also known for its significant sports achievements, particularly in speedway, where clubs Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski and Falubaz Zielona Góra compete, creating the thrilling Lubusz Land Derby. In the culinary sphere, the region is famous for its wines and local delicacies. An interesting fact is that the Lubusz Voivodeship borders Germany, which influences its culture and traditions. Additionally, the western part is home to what is likely Poland's oldest forest – the Bory Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesian Wilderness), as well as many sites listed in the register of monuments, testifying to the region's rich past. Lubusz is also a venue for numerous festivals and cultural events, making it an attraction for tourists and a place of dynamic social life.
