Barcin is an urban-rural municipality located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Żnin County, with its administrative seat in the town of Barcin, which has a population of approximately 7,142. The municipality covers an area of 121 km² and includes 22 localities divided into 15 village councils (sołectwa). The area is notable for its architectural heritage, which includes several palace complexes, such as those in Krotoszyn, Młodocin, and Piechcin, with the oldest dating back to the second half of the 17th century, as well as a Catholic parish cemetery established in the mid-19th century.
The Barcin Municipal Cultural Center serves as a cultural hub, organizing events such as the Sung Poetry Festival, Honey Days, and the Barć Film Festival. The Public Library in Barcin also actively engages residents through various cultural activities. The municipality is home to several sports clubs, including the Ludowy Klub Sportowy "Dąb Barcin" and the Sailing Club "Neptun." Since 2019, the Honey Running Festival has attracted running enthusiasts from across the region.
Economically, the area is known for its industrial activity, particularly cement and lime production by LafargeHolcim, which plans to develop a zero-emission cement plant. Demographically, Barcin is characterized by diversity, with an average resident age of 41.4 years. The municipality is bordered by neighboring areas such as Dąbrowa, Łabiszyn, and Złotniki Kujawskie.
