The Bartoszyce Commune is located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Bartoszyce County, with its seat in the town of Bartoszyce. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship. According to the National Census of March 31, 2011, the commune had a population of 11,045 inhabitants, while data from December 31, 2019, shows that the number had decreased to 10,715. The commune covers an area of 427.82 km², of which 71% is agricultural land and 16% is forested. Bartoszyce constitutes 32.69% of the total area of the county. The commune includes nature protection areas, such as two Natura 2000 sites – the Warmińska Refuge and the Peat Bogs near Łabędnik. Additionally, two protected landscape areas have been designated within the commune: the Elma Valley and the Lower Łyna Valley. The area also features four registered peat bog ecological sites. Bartoszyce, with its rich history, is a place that borders Russia and neighbors communes such as Bisztynek and Lidzbark Warmiński. It is also worth noting that the commune is characterized by a harmony between natural landscapes and agricultural activities, making it an interesting place both to live in and to visit, with unique landscape and natural values.
