wikipedia
Barzyn Palace, also known as the von Bodeck family palace, is a historic architectural monument located in the village of Barzyna in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Its history dates back to the 14th century, and the building itself was extensively remodeled multiple times between 1560 and 1829, primarily in the Neo-Gothic and Baroque styles. The palace, built on a rectangular plan, is characterized by its irregular massing, a central projection with the main entrance, and two large annexes—one with a mansard roof and the other, in the Neo-Gothic style, featuring corner towers. The interior is adorned with a Baroque portal bearing the coat of arms of the von Bodeck family. The palace was once surrounded by a park, which has now become overgrown and lost its aesthetic value. It served as the seat of the von Bodeck family until 1829. After the death of the last male heir, it passed into the hands of various owners, including the von der Groeben family. Following World War II, the property was taken over by a state-owned farm (PGR) and fell into disrepair. An interesting fact is that after the war, several valuable artworks were rescued from the palace, including a unique self-portrait by Rembrandt. Listed in the register of historical monuments in 1968, the palace remains unrestored to this day, yet it continues to attract the attention of architecture and history enthusiasts.
