Bernatka Reservoir is a small artificial water body located in the western part of the city of Skarżysko-Kamienna, near the historic village of Milica. The reservoir was formed on the stream of Bernatka, a left tributary of the Kamienna River, and serves a water retention function, which is particularly important in the context of water management. The reservoir covers an area of 1.71 hectares, with an average depth of 1.40 meters and a maximum impoundment level of 3.30 meters. Additionally, the weir on the reservoir allows for water regulation, although its current technical condition does not fully meet its retention function.
In the past, Bernatka Reservoir was a popular recreational spot, offering a bathing area and water equipment rentals. However, the area is now neglected, and the former leisure center has fallen into ruin. Despite a private investment aimed at revitalizing the site, the infrastructure still requires a thorough overhaul, as announced by the city authorities. The reservoir borders a forested area, highlighting its natural appeal and creating opportunities for recreation. However, the current state of the facilities and the lack of adequate infrastructure limit its potential. An interesting aspect is its history and the changes it has undergone over the years, reflecting evolving approaches to water resource management and spatial planning. The revitalization of the reservoir could contribute to the cultural and recreational revival of the area, attracting both residents and tourists.
