wikipedia
Brzoza, a suburban village located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the commune of Nowa Wieś Wielka, boasts a rich history dating back to its first mention in 1489 as the property of the Kuyavian princes. In the past, it was part of the Province of Poznań and a site of fighting during the Greater Poland Uprising, which is commemorated by a monument honoring 19 fallen soldiers of the 1st Kuyavian Grenadier Regiment, unveiled in 2012 on the site of the original 1923 monument. The village is surrounded by the Bydgoszcz Forest, and its natural areas, including the Dziki Ostrów nature reserve, are protected. Brzoza has significant educational infrastructure, including a kindergarten, primary school, and middle school, and hosts cycling rallies organized by the "Rowerowa Brzoza" Association. In the 19th century, a school operated in the village, and the education system was significantly expanded in the post-war years. The development of the commune was linked to settlement and infrastructure growth, including the construction of roads and railway lines. In 1997, a wastewater treatment plant was launched, and the village was electrified, improving the living conditions of its residents. Notable architecture includes the Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, and the Skórzewski family hunting palace, listed in the register of historical monuments. With a population of 3,149 according to the 2011 census, Brzoza remains a dynamically developing village with strong ties to Bydgoszcz. The local Volunteer Fire Department is active, and a library and community center have been operating since 1962. Between 2008 and 2013, 92 new apartments were commissioned, and the number of businesses increased, making Brzoza an important economic center in the region. An interesting fact about Brzoza is that the 18th meridian east passes through the village. Thanks to its location and natural values, Brzoza is becoming an increasingly attractive place to live and relax.
