Bydgoski County, established in 1999 within the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, covers an area of 1,398 km², with its seat located in the city of Bydgoszcz. It is characterized by a rich settlement network, featuring notable towns such as Koronowo and Solec Kujawski, as well as numerous villages and rural administrative units. The county is abundant in historical monuments, including Gothic and Baroque churches, such as the former Cistercian monastery church in Koronowo and the 19th-century town hall in Koronowo. Among the architectural treasures of the region is the palace and park complex in Ostromecko, with its Rococo and Neoclassical palaces. The county also boasts a rich cultural heritage, with numerous traces of local ethnographic traditions and cultural events, such as the Vistula Bend Fair and the Sailing Song Festival. The history of the region dates back to prehistoric times, with numerous hillforts and traces of ancient settlements. During the Middle Ages, the area was a subject of disputes between Poland and the Teutonic Knights. After the First Partition of Poland, the county became part of Prussia, and its development accelerated with the construction of the Bydgoszcz Canal and the expansion of railway infrastructure. During World War II, the region suffered under brutal German occupation, traces of which can still be found in many places, and mass graves of victims of war crimes serve as a reminder of this tragic period in history. The county is known for its diverse forms of tourism, especially water-based tourism, with the Koronowo Reservoir as a recreational hub. Modern development of the county is reflected in its dynamic population growth and infrastructure expansion, making it an attractive place to live.
