wikipedia
Bolechowo, formerly known as Diedrichsdorf, is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship with a rich history dating back to prehistoric times, when Neolithic settlements existed in the area. Nestled in the picturesque Goleniowska Forest, Bolechowo attracts tourists with its cycling trails that wind through surrounding woodlands and along waterways. The village was founded in 1751 by order of the Prussian King Frederick II, who commanded the establishment of a settlement for families engaged in wool spinning. This marked the beginning of the village's history, and its first houses, built in half-timbered construction, now form part of its architectural heritage. Over time, Bolechowo evolved into an agricultural and residential settlement, preserving 20th-century buildings alongside older homes registered as historical monuments. Throughout the 20th century, various associations were active in the village, with residents engaging in cultural life by forming choirs and organizing festivals. In 1947, a brass band was established, becoming an important part of local community life. After World War II, Bolechowo was resettled by Poles, including settlers from Ukraine, and the village’s name was changed. Today, the community’s modernization efforts include initiatives such as creating a digital archive that documents local history and involves residents in its preservation. Bolechowo also offers various forms of recreation, and its religious community belongs to the Catholic parish, highlighting its cultural and spiritual dimension. The village’s contemporary character is shaped by individual farms and the work of local artisans, reflecting its ongoing evolution and adaptation to changing living conditions.
