Bolesław Chrobry First High School in Piotrków Trybunalski

Bolesław Chrobre High School No. 1 in Piotrków Trybunalski is a secondary school with a rich history dating back to the second half of the 17th century, when the first Piarist and Jesuit colleges were established. Architecturally, the school has its roots in 17th-century buildings that have been modernized multiple times. Today, the school grounds house a planetarium—the first amateur planetarium in Poland, opened in 1981 by Zbigniew Solarz. The institution has given rise to numerous cultural initiatives, such as subject-specific clubs, literary circles, and theater groups, highlighting its commitment to nurturing students' potential. Throughout its history, the school was under the care of various religious orders, which significantly influenced local cultural and educational life. During World War II, secret classes were organized, allowing students to continue their education despite the harsh conditions of occupation—a testament to the school’s flexibility and determination to provide learning opportunities. It is worth noting that the school faced difficult times, including fires, political changes, and repression, yet it always managed to resume normal operations. Graduates of the high school include not only local leaders but also nationally recognized figures, such as generals, doctors, writers, and social activists, reflecting the high quality of education and the institution’s significance both regionally and nationally. Interestingly, in the postwar period, the school transitioned from being all-male to coeducational. Today, it offers various academic tracks, including mathematics, biology-chemistry, and humanities.
