Bulowice is a rural administrative village in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, situated along National Road 52, within the Silesian Foothills near the Little Beskids. Its history dates back to the second half of the 14th century, when it first appeared in official records, though according to legend, the village's name derives from its founder, Bolek of the Bolewicz family. The 19th century brought development to Bulowice, and the 20th century saw the establishment of social and cultural institutions such as a school and a community center. The village is also home to a brass band affiliated with the Volunteer Fire Department and the Ludowy Klub Sportowy "Bulowice" sports club. Notable architectural landmarks include the neo-Gothic Larisch family palace from 1882 and the Parish Church of St. Adalbert built in 1827, both of which are listed as heritage monuments. Bulowice has witnessed numerous historical events, including the passage of King John III Sobieski’s troops on their way to relieve Vienna, as well as the difficult years of World War I and World War II, when the village became a site of mass evacuations and persecution. Today, the village enjoys growing economic activity, with numerous businesses and service establishments. In 2018, the horror film "Wilkołak" (Werewolf) was filmed in Bulowice, followed by scenes for "Kosa" (Scythe) in 2023, highlighting its cultural significance. An intriguing local legend involves tragic accidents involving deer in the 1950s, which continues to stir controversy and uncertainty among residents. Bulowice is a place rich in history and traditions, seamlessly blending the past with modernity.
