wikipedia
Oświęcim County, with its seat in the city of Oświęcim, was established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform in Poland. Its history dates back to 1854, when the original Oświęcim County was created, encompassing the town of Oświęcim and 25 surrounding localities. Over the years, the county underwent numerous changes, including its dissolution in 1932 and re-establishment in 1951. During World War II, the territory of the former Oświęcim County was incorporated into Bielitz County. Architecturally, the region is characterized by diversity, ranging from historic monuments in Oświęcim to modern residential buildings. Oświęcim is home to a castle that once served as the seat of the county administration, as well as a number of churches representing various denominations, including Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, and Adventist communities. The county boasts a rich cultural life, featuring diverse festivals, artistic events, and activities organized by local associations. Among the notable figures associated with the region is Maximilian Kolbe, the patron saint of the county. Demographically, Oświęcim County had a population of 153,486 in 2019. The region borders five other counties and the city of Jaworzno, ensuring good transport connections. An interesting fact is that Oświęcim County holds a significant place in history due to the tragic events of World War II, yet today it stands as a symbol of renewal and vibrant local life.
