Katedralna is a municipal auxiliary unit located in the city center of Łódź, covering an area of just over 3 km² and inhabited by 47,657 people. The district’s name comes from the Archcathedral of St. Stanislaus Kostka, situated within its boundaries. The area is characterized by dense urban development, primarily consisting of tenement houses from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Near Piotrkowska Street, in the heart of the district, lies the Śródmiejska Dzielnica Mieszkaniowa (Downtown Housing Estate) – the tallest residential complex in Łódź and the tallest large-panel system building estate in Poland, composed of eight high-rises, including two 25-story towers. Katedralna also features numerous post-industrial buildings that now serve new functions, as well as the Henryk Sienkiewicz Park, which acts as the main green space. The district is home to Plac Wolności (Freedom Square), a key landmark in Łódź, and the famous Piotrkowska Street runs through its entire length. In terms of infrastructure, Katedralna boasts numerous cultural institutions, including theaters, museums, and universities, as well as seats of local government and state offices. The district is also home to Catholic and Evangelical churches, reflecting its religious diversity. Additionally, the area thrives commercially, with numerous shops, department stores, service outlets, and banking facilities. Key tram and bus routes run through the heart of Katedralna, making it one of the most important transport hubs in Łódź. The district combines a rich historical, architectural, and cultural heritage, making it a significant landmark on the city's map.
