wikipedia
The Central Sudetes, located on the border between Poland and the Czech Republic, is a region with a unique mountainous landscape, characterized by a striking contrast between steep slopes and gentle ridges. The highest peak is Wielka Desztna (1,115 meters above sea level), and among the main ranges, the Owl Mountains, Stone Mountains, and Table Mountains stand out. This region is not only diverse in terms of terrain but also geologically rich, featuring some of Poland's oldest mountains made of archaic gneisses and unique plateau formations in the Table Mountains. The population of the Central Sudetes is diverse, largely consisting of settlers who moved here after World War II. Most residents live in rural areas, with significant towns including Kłodzko, Wałbrzych, Kudowa-Zdrój, and Polanica-Zdrój. Health resorts such as Kudowa-Zdrój and Lądek-Zdrój attract tourists thanks to the healing properties of their mineral waters. The region is home to numerous historical monuments, including the Kłodzko Fortress, Książ Castle, and many churches and palaces, all testifying to its rich history. The Central Sudetes are also a natural treasure trove. The flora is varied, dominated by spruce forests and less common beech forests. While human activity has left its mark on the ecosystem, fragments of natural plant communities, including peat bogs, can still be found. The fauna is equally rich, with numerous species of mammals and birds inhabiting the forests, including the mouflon, one of the more characteristic residents of the Bardzkie Mountains. The region boasts a well-developed transportation network, supporting regional development and tourism. Major national roads and railway lines run through the Central Sudetes, benefiting both local residents and tourists. High air quality, clean waters, and diverse natural attractions make this a popular destination. The Central Sudetes are also a protected natural area, home to the Table Mountains National Park and other landscape parks. Of particular interest are the numerous castle ruins, such as Radosno Castle and Grodno, which are remnants of medieval social structures. The region also features examples of wooden architecture and traditional artisan houses, reflecting local cultural traditions. Thus, the Central Sudetes are not only an attractive tourist destination but also a place rich in history, culture, and extraordinary landscapes.
