The Chocianów Commune, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship within the Polkowice County, was established on October 4, 1973, following the relocation of the municipal seat from Trzebnice to Chocianów. Initially, the commune included the villages of Brunów, Bukowna, Chocianowiec, Lisiec, Michałów, Ogrodzisko, Raków, Szklary Dolne, Trzebnice, Trzmielów, and Żabice, and incorporated several localities from the Polkowice Commune. Between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the Legnica Voivodeship, and since 1999, it has belonged to the newly formed Polkowice County. Demographic data show that the population was 12,701 in 2004, increasing to 12,973 by 2020. The Chocianów Commune comprises the town of Chocianów and several villages, including non-administrative settlements. It covers an area of 230.27 km², dominated by forests (51%) and agricultural land (42%). Among its diverse natural resources is the Czarne Stawy Nature Reserve, which protects unique bog forest ecosystems and rare species of plants and animals. Chocianów borders several communes, including Chojnów, Gromadka, and Lubin, fostering regional development. The commune plays a significant role in preserving local culture and natural traditions, with its rich history and scenic beauty attracting both residents and tourists.
