The Chociwel Commune is an urban-rural municipality located in the northeastern part of the Stargard County, with its seat in the town of Chociwel. Until 1998, the commune belonged to the Szczecin Voivodeship. It borders the communes of Dobrzany, Ińsko, Marianowo, Stara Dąbrowa, Maszewo, Dobra, and Węgorzyno. It is characterized by a beautiful landscape, with a high concentration of post-glacial lakes, forests, and moraine hills. Forests cover 34% of the commune's area, while agricultural land accounts for 56%. The eastern part of the commune lies within the Iński Landscape Park, which contributes to the region's rich biodiversity. In the town of Chociwel, picturesquely situated on Lake Starzyc, there is only one tourist accommodation facility, indicating the minor role tourism plays in the local economy despite its attractions. Historically, Chociwel received town rights in 1338. The commune has a well-developed transport infrastructure, including national road No. 20 and railway lines, with active train stations in Chociwel and Lisów. The economy is based on agriculture, industry, and services, with wartime rural bread being a regional culinary specialty. In 2016, the commune achieved budget revenues of PLN 21.7 million, placing it in a good financial situation, with public debt amounting to PLN 2.5 million. Due to its natural and cultural assets, the Chociwel Commune has the potential for further development, particularly in the tourism sector.
