The Regional Museum in Chojnów, operating within the castle of the Legnica-Brzeg Piasts, is a self-governing cultural institution subordinate to the Chojnów city municipality. The museum is supervised by the City Mayor, with general oversight provided by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Established in 1903 as the Alterthums-Museum, the museum aims to collect, study, and protect exhibits related to the history and art of Lower Silesia. Today, the castle building is the only preserved remnant of the Renaissance residence, which was previously rebuilt from a Gothic castle. Historically significant, the castle has undergone numerous transformations, including fires, and its reconstruction in the 20th century led to its conversion into a museum. The current collection comprises over 1,140 exhibits, with a significant portion related to archaeology, ethnography, and the history of the city. The museum organizes exhibitions, concerts, and lectures, and the local community collaborates with the institution to promote the region's history. A notable highlight is the exhibition of Renaissance sgraffito, discovered in the 1970s, which originally adorned the Schellendorf manor in Zagrodno. The museum's activities, which are reclaiming its position in local culture, underscore the importance of historical and artistic heritage in the Chojnów community.
