Choroszcz is a town in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, part of the Białystok agglomeration, situated on the Horodnianka River. In 2022, its population was 6,033. The town boasts a rich history dating back to the Mesolithic era and has for centuries served as an economic and cultural center for the region. During the 16th century, Choroszcz developed as a trading hub with numerous fairs and markets.
Architectural highlights include an 18th-century Dominican monastery complex, featuring a church and monastery, as well as the Baroque Branicki Palace—now the Museum of Palace Interiors—surrounded by a beautiful park. A notable historical aspect is the town's long association with the Dominican Order and the significant Jewish community that once lived here.
In the 19th century, the well-known Moes family textile factory was established, transforming the town's character. During World War II, Choroszcz endured tragic events, including the mass murder of its Jewish population. Post-war reconstruction included the restoration of the Branicki summer residence.
Today, Choroszcz is a center of cultural activity, home to a local cultural center and sports clubs, including football teams. The town offers well-developed transport and educational infrastructure, with a kindergarten, primary school, and other public institutions. It attracts tourists with landmarks such as the Jewish cemetery and opportunities for active recreation, including cycling trails and sports facilities.
