Chorzelów

Chorzelów is a village in southeastern Poland, located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within Mielec County. Its history dates back to the Neolithic era, with the first written mention in 1326. Over the centuries, the village changed hands multiple times, belonging successively to the Mielecki, Morsztyn, and Tarnowski families. Chorzelów was known for its robust infrastructure and artisanal activities, including a distillery, sawmill, and steam-powered mill, as well as being a center for horse breeding and the site of the first cheese dairy in Galicia. In the 20th century, particularly during the interwar period, the village gained prominence thanks to its academic community and cooperatives. Architecturally, the village is distinguished by the Parish Church of All Saints, built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1907 and designed by Teodor Talowski. The church interior partially retains furnishings from earlier structures, including Baroque altars from the 17th century. Adjacent to the church is a rectory from 1855, which houses a museum preserving historical artifacts. The transportation infrastructure, however, has fallen into disrepair—Chorzelów has a railway station on line No. 25 and was once part of a national road. Chorzelów also boasts a rich cultural offering. The Municipal Center of Culture and Sport, active since 1975, promotes local artists and organizes diverse events. The local public library complements this activity by providing residents with access to literature and educational programs. An interesting fact is that Władysław Sikorski, a general and Prime Minister of Poland, was baptized in Chorzelów. The village also features sites tied to Polish history, such as a poorhouse established by the Morsztyn family. Additionally, Calvinist synods were held here, highlighting the village’s religious activity. In 2008, a Marian sanctuary was established, centered around an image of the Holy Family. The village is also known for its sports traditions, including the LKS SOKiS Chorzelów club and the Przedświt Equestrian Club. Overall, Chorzelów is a place with a rich history, diverse architectural heritage, and vibrant cultural life, having developed its unique identity and strong local community over the centuries.
