wikipedia
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Nysa is considered the finest example of Baroque architecture in the region. Its history is closely tied to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, which was brought to Nysa in the 12th century. After the order was relocated and its former seat destroyed, the present church was constructed between 1720 and 1727 based on designs by Michael Klein and Felix Anton Hammerschmidt. The church features a three-bay layout and tall towers that dominate the city’s skyline. The interior is adorned with rich illusionistic polychromes created by the Scheffler brothers, and the frescoes depict themes of the Holy Cross and salvation. Numerous elements of late Baroque decor have been preserved in the church, including the main altar with a painting of the apostles Peter and Paul. Notable features also include the Rococo Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre and the pulpit, which are outstanding examples of artistic craftsmanship from that period. The church has survived numerous historical upheavals, such as secularization and a fire in 1945, and since 1999 it has served as the main church of the newly established parish. Its uniqueness lies in the harmonious collaboration of numerous artists and the preserved rich furnishings, making it a gem of the "Silesian Rome."
