wikipedia
The Church of the Holy Cross "na Obidowej" is located in Chabówka, right on the border with Rdzawka, by the national road DK47 (Zakopianka). The building features a log structure with characteristic low arcades—known as soboty—which are supported by pillars and covered by a single-pitched roof. Inside the temple, there are polychromes from 1901 depicting architectural, figurative, and ornamental motifs. Unfortunately, they were largely destroyed during a fire in 1994 but were later reconstructed. The church was founded in 1757 by Jan Wielopolski, the voivode of Sandomierz, on the site of an earlier chapel. The history of the church is steeped in legends, one of which tells of a wealthy merchant who, facing danger at the hands of robbers, called upon the help of the Holy Cross. This led to his rescue through the miraculous arrival of a fog or the appearance of a fiery cross in the sky. Another miraculous event is said to be the emergence of a spring called the Source of Comforting Water (Źródło Pociesznej Wody), known for its healing properties. In 1928, the Kraków Automobile Club took the church under its care, and after 1965, the Marian Fathers assumed responsibility for it. The 1994 fire, caused by unknown perpetrators, did not completely destroy the building, thanks to the swift response of firefighters. The church holds not only religious but also cultural significance, serving as a pilgrimage site, especially during feast days, underscoring its role in the life of the local community.
