Church of the Holy Spirit in Łask

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Łask is a historic wooden temple located in the Łódź Voivodeship, with a history dating back to 1495, when Cardinal Fryderyk Jagiellończyk initiated the construction of the first church on the outskirts of Łask. The wooden structure quickly fell into disrepair and burned down in 1665. The present larch church was built in 1666 with donations from the residents of Łask, under the direction of Father Maciej Szklarski. In 1811, the church was handed over to the Evangelicals, leading to the establishment of a new parish in Łask. During the interwar period, the church was adorned with shell decorations donated by Zofia Wehr. After World War II, controversies arose over the use of the building, until finally, in the 1980s, due to its poor technical condition, the church ceased to be used. In 1989, the land register was recorded, and the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary became the owner of the property. By 1990, a Social Committee for the Reconstruction of the Church was established, as the building required a major renovation aimed at restoring it to use. The renovation was completed in 1997, and the church was solemnly consecrated. It is currently used by the Military Parish in Łask under an agreement with the Archdiocese of Łódź. Architecturally, the church features a three-nave log structure made of larch logs, with a boarded façade and roofs covered with wood shingles. The entrance to the temple is crowned with a small belfry. An additional advantage of the church is the preserved historical section, with a vestibule under the choir and a sacristy in the western part of the southern chapel. The Church of the Holy Spirit is also listed in the register of monuments under number 41. Its centuries-old history and changes in use make it an important element of the cultural and historical heritage of Łask.
