wikipedia
Cięcina is a picturesque village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, in Żywiec County, within the commune of Węgierska Górka, known for its production of the spring water "Żywiec Zdrój." The village has a rich history, dating back to the 13th century, and its name suggests the clearing of forests. Cięcina was part of the Duchy of Oświęcim, and in the 14th century, it gained parish status. In the 16th century, the village became the property of the Komorowski magnates, who established manors, contributing to its economic development. It is also worth noting that during the Hussite period, the local church was attacked, which influenced its status in historical chronicles. Architecturally, two churches stand out: the historic wooden Church of St. Catherine from the 16th century and the modern Church of the Transfiguration from the 1980s, which houses one of the largest organs in the voivodeship. The village is an important center of local culture, with active sports and scouting clubs offering a variety of activities for residents. Cięcina is also home to the Chapel of Our Lady of Częstochowa and 18th-century stone monuments, which testify to its rich past. The region is popular for tourism, thanks to mountain trails, including the Main Beskid Trail, as well as cycling and educational paths, attracting enthusiasts of active recreation. It is also worth mentioning notable individuals born in Cięcina, such as Olympian Augustyn Dziedzic and three-time Olympian Anna Gębala. Thus, Cięcina offers not only beautiful landscapes and attractive architecture but also a rich cultural and historical heritage.
