Śródmieście is one of the 18 districts of Warsaw, located on the left bank of the Vistula River, where modern architecture blends with historical monuments. The district is divided into 9 neighborhoods, among which Muranów, Nowe Miasto, and Stare Miasto are particularly significant from a historical and cultural perspective. It is worth noting the architectural diversity, including the complex of buildings around the Palace of Culture and Science and the historic tenements in the Old Town area, which together create a unique urban landscape. The boundaries of Śródmieście were established in 1960, and over the years the district has evolved, also incorporating areas that were previously part of Wola or Ochota. In the past, there was the Warsaw-Centrum municipality, which operated from 1994 to 2002 and focused on developing infrastructure and promoting the culture of this area. Śródmieście is not only the administrative but also the cultural center of the city, with numerous theaters, museums, and artistic institutions. The district's boundaries are marked by railway tracks, as well as iconic streets and alleys that connect the past with modernity. It encompasses areas rich in history, including the Old Town, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Śródmieście attracts both residents and tourists, offering many attractions, such as the central intersection of Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie, which serves as a landmark for travelers. Interestingly, all road distances from Warsaw are measured from this point, and in the western corner of the intersection, there is a kilometer post indicating distances to important cities in Poland and Europe. Throughout the history of Śródmieście, mayors such as Jan Rutkiewicz, Jan Rasielski, and Aleksander Ferens played a significant role in its development. Today, Śródmieście is the vibrant heart of Warsaw, continuously evolving while preserving its unique identity.
