Collegiate Basilica of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Brzozów

The Collegiate Basilica of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Brzozów is a Roman Catholic Baroque church, built between 1676 and 1686 and consecrated in 1688. The structure is notable for its oriented, three-nave layout with a twin-tower façade and two late Baroque chapels. The history of Brzozów dates back to 1359, when Casimir the Great established the village, and some sources suggest that the parish may be one of the oldest in the Przemyśl diocese, founded before 1375. The church has been rebuilt and restored multiple times, with the support of the bishops of Przemyśl. A particularly significant event was the consecration of the image of Our Lady of the Fire, which was crowned in 1858. The basilica's cultural treasures include the organ, whose history dates back to the late 17th century, and the pulpit, considered one of the most beautiful works of its time, richly decorated with sculptures and floral motifs. Over the centuries, Brzozów also served important administrative functions as the residence of the bishops of Przemyśl.
