Wygoda (Białystok)

W skrócie

wikipedia
Wygoda is one of the oldest districts of Białystok, located in the northeastern part of the city. Its history dates back to the 1770s, when the Sobolewski estate existed in the area, encompassing the villages of Bagnówka and Pieczurki. Thanks to its favorable location at the road junction leading to Grodno and Supraśl, Wygoda developed rapidly, which accelerated the establishment of numerous cemeteries at the turn of the 19th century, including Evangelical, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Jewish burial grounds. In 1919, Wygoda was incorporated into Białystok as part of "Greater Białystok." During the interwar period, the city grew, and the 42nd Infantry Regiment played a key role in the cultural and military life of the district, with its own orchestra and sports team, which in 1932 was transformed into Jagiellonia Białystok. After World War II, Wygoda underwent a thorough transformation, with wooden buildings giving way to new apartment blocks, although the district remains known for its single-family homes. Industrial areas developed around the district, and new institutions emerged, such as militia units and correctional facilities. In 2004, the boundaries of the district were expanded to include Pieczurki and Bagnówka, and between 2011 and 2013, significant road investments were made, including a new urban artery and two-level interchanges. Notable sites in Wygoda include the Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery, the Church of the Holy Wisdom of God, and the City Park with its boating pond. Among the historical monuments are the parish cemetery with the Church of Christ the Savior and the former headquarters building of the barracks of the 61st Kazan Infantry Regiment. In 2021, the district's boundaries were altered, leading to the creation of the new district of Bagnówka. Wygoda is not only a place with a rich history but also a dynamically developing area that combines elements of culture, architecture, and modern urban life.
