Czołpino Lighthouse

The Czołpino Lighthouse, located on the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea in the Smołdzino municipality, is one of the most important landmarks in the region. Built according to designs by engineer E. Kummer between 1872 and 1875, the tower was constructed from red brick and reaches a height of 25.2 meters, with its light situated at 75 meters above sea level. The lighthouse, with a nominal range of up to 21 nautical miles, features a distinctive light signal in the form of an interrupted group flash, making it visible to ships from great distances. The entire construction process was complicated due to the challenging terrain, which necessitated transporting materials by sea. In a historical context, the lighthouse underwent significant changes, including the installation of electric power instead of oil-based lighting during the interwar period. Since 1994, the lighthouse has been open to tourists, making it a popular excursion destination. Additionally, it is part of the AIS-PL system, which enables monitoring of ship traffic in the coastal zone. The Czołpino Lighthouse is also part of the Słowiński National Park, highlighting its importance not only as a landscape and architectural feature but also as a tourist attraction. The economic and residential buildings for lighthouse keepers, located at the foot of the dune, await renovation, showcasing potential for further development. Today, the lighthouse is in excellent condition, serving both as a witness to history and an active coastal landmark.
