wikipedia
The statue of the goddess Diana in Wrocław, known as the Diana Gruppe, is a reconstructed sculpture by Ernst Seger, originally installed in Szczytnicki Park in 1898. The artwork depicts Diana in a hunting scene, holding a spear and accompanied by two hunting dogs, all mounted on a boulder pedestal. Unfortunately, in 1945, the monument disappeared under unknown circumstances, representing a loss to the local culture and artistic heritage. After 70 years, thanks to the collaboration of the Society of Friends of Wrocław, the Polish Hunting Association, and the city of Wrocław, a decision was made to reconstruct this historic work. The city's residents actively supported the project, raising a total of 290,000 złoty through voluntary donations. The reconstruction of the sculpture was carried out by Ryszard Zarycki, and the official unveiling took place on September 10, 2015, in Zbigniew Cybulski Square. Interestingly, the reconstruction of the monument not only restored an important cultural element of Wrocław but also inspired discussions about the protection of local monuments and their history. Encouraging reflection on the passage of time and the significance of cultural memory, the Diana statue has once again become a symbol of Wrocław's park, blending historical values with a modern approach to heritage preservation.
