Diocesan Museum in Rzeszów

The Diocesan Museum in Rzeszów, established in 1997 by Bishop Kazimierz Górny, opened its doors on September 22, 1998, as part of the European Heritage Days. As a church institution, the museum collects sacred art objects that were typically used in liturgy. However, due to their age and historical significance, many artifacts from the diocese are housed in other museums, such as those in Przemyśl and Tarnów. Under the leadership of Father Franciszek Dziedzic, the museum expanded its collections during its first 17 years of operation. Today, the exhibition features over 600 items, which are systematically conserved, reflecting a strong commitment to their protection and preservation for future generations. Among the most valuable objects are an Italian domestic limestone holy water font from the early Middle Ages, a 14th-century crucifix from Rożnowice, a 16th-century sculpture of the Risen Christ, a 17th-century painting depicting "Christ at the Column," a Madonna statue dated to before 1410, and a processional banner of the Immaculate Virgin Mary from 1698, created within the circle of the renowned Dolabelli artistic school. The museum serves not only a cultural role but also an educational one, acting as a space where the history of regional sacred art meets spirituality. Interestingly, the city of Rzeszów, where the museum is located, is known for its rich cultural and artistic traditions, making the Diocesan Museum one of the key elements of the region's heritage.
