The Dubienka Commune, located in the Lublin Voivodeship, Chełm County, has its seat in the town of Dubienka. It was established in 1939 during the Nazi occupation, when an administrative unit was formed from the area of the town of Dubienka, which had been stripped of its town rights, and the surrounding villages. In 1944, Dubienka temporarily regained its town status, but after 1946 it once again became a rural commune. In 1954, the commune was abolished and replaced by gromadas (smaller administrative units), which existed until 1973 when the commune was reinstated.
Structurally, the commune covers an area of 96.26 km², of which 66% is agricultural land and 20% is forested, highlighting its agricultural character and natural values. Demographically, in 2019, the commune was inhabited by 2,315 people, reflecting a declining population trend compared to previous years. The commune includes several village administrative units (sołectwa), such as Brzozowiec, Holendry, and Siedliszcze, as well as smaller settlements without such status.
Due to its location, the commune borders Ukraine and neighbors other communes, including Białopole, Dorohusk, and Żmudź, underscoring its strategic importance in the region. The history of the commune, marked by turbulent events such as occupation and subsequent administrative changes, makes it an area of interest with a unique cultural and historical heritage.
