wikipedia
Orla Perć is a spectacular marked hiking trail in the High Tatras, running from Zawrat Pass to Krzyżne. It is considered one of the most difficult and dangerous trails in Poland, featuring numerous exposed sections with aids such as chains and footholds. However, due to its challenges, it is not recommended for beginner hikers. The trail was established between 1903 and 1906 by the Tatra Society and Father Walenty Gadowski. Over the years, Orla Perć has witnessed many tragic accidents; from its creation until 2004, 86 people lost their lives on it. Its design, incorporating diverse Tatra obstacles, makes it not only a challenge but also an unforgettable adventure for many hikers. It is worth mentioning that the trail is also a popular destination for mountain runners; in 2018, Filip Babicz set a record by completing it in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 23 seconds. Orla Perć holds a place in culture and literature, gaining attention in works such as Roman Kołakowski's analysis of Father Józef Tischner's philosophy. The trail connects with many others, such as those from the Gąsienicowa Valley and the Valley of the Five Polish Lakes, making it a popular starting point. Unfortunately, the section along the Wołoszyn Ridge is currently closed to protect the natural environment. Orla Perć remains not only a trekking route but also a symbol of Tatra beauty and challenges, attracting mountain enthusiasts from around the world.
