Feliks Stamm Monument in Warsaw

The monument to Feliks Stamm, located in Mirowski Park in Warsaw, was unveiled on May 21, 2019, as a tribute to the outstanding Polish boxing coach. The initiative to build the monument was led by Feliks Stamm's great-granddaughter, Paula Stamm, and her Feliks Stamm Foundation. The construction of the monument received support from the Warsaw City Council on April 5, 2015, and in April 2017, a competition for the design was announced, which was won by the Bulgarian artist Lubomir Grigorov. The monument commemorates the achievement of Polish boxers who won nine medals at the European Championships in May 1953, which is why this date holds particular significance. The unveiling ceremony took place in the presence of distinguished guests, including the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski. The sculpture depicts Feliks Stamm wearing a sweater and tracksuit, with boxing gloves and a towel over his shoulder, emphasizing his connection to the sport. The monument stands 240 cm tall and is mounted on a 20 cm pedestal. The sponsor of the monument was Zbigniew Jakubas. The statue not only honors the coach but also attracts the attention of residents and tourists, becoming an important landmark on Warsaw's cultural map, where boxing has played a significant role in sports history. Additionally, a small museum dedicated to Feliks Stamm is located in the nearby Gwardia Hall, enriching the area with historical and sporting context. Thus, the Feliks Stamm Monument serves as a vital element in preserving the memory of Polish sports, earning a special place in the hearts of Warsaw residents and boxing enthusiasts.
