wikipedia
The Fish Gate, also known as the Gate of the Third Millennium, is a unique sculpture located on the Lednica Fields by Lake Lednica. Its fish-like shape references the Greek word Ichthys, which is a symbol of Jesus Christ. The architectural aspects of the gate distinguish it as a modern element of the landscape while simultaneously integrating with the spiritual and religious significance of the site. The gate was erected thanks to the initiative of Father Jan Góra, a Dominican friar from Poznań, who aimed to create a symbolic passage to Christ. Leading to the gate is the Road of the Third Millennium, which symbolizes the spiritual journey every believer should undertake to draw closer to God. The Fish Gate also serves as an important cultural element, being part of the annual Lednica gatherings that bring together young people from across Poland in a spirit of prayer and reflection. In 2016, the Fish Gate gained additional significance when it was declared the Gate of Mercy by the Primate of Poland, Archbishop Wojciech Polak, on the occasion of the Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis. Interestingly, the gate not only serves a religious function but also attracts tourists and pilgrims, standing as a symbol of unity and faith, as well as modern sacred architecture in Poland.
