The Forest Park of Culture and Recreation in Bydgoszcz, commonly known as Myślęcinek, is the largest urban park in Poland, spanning an area of 830 hectares. Located in the northern part of the city, it combines natural beauty with diverse recreational infrastructure, including walking trails, sports facilities, and relaxation areas. The park features varied terrain, with moraine hills, erosion valleys, and ponds, with Lake Myślęcińskie as its main water reservoir. The artificially elevated Myślęcińska Hill, the highest point in Bydgoszcz, offers a ski slope. Myślęcinek is also rich in green spaces and protected ecosystems, including pine forests, mixed deciduous forests, and riparian woodlands, which are home to numerous plant and animal species. The park also houses the Polish Fauna Garden, the Botanical Garden, and numerous educational trails promoting environmental education. The park's history dates back to the Middle Ages, when the area was owned by knights and later transformed into an agricultural estate. In the 20th century, after land reform, work began to develop the area into a park, and it was officially opened in 1973. The park has since become a venue for various events, including concerts, festivals, and the World Cross Country Championships. Interestingly, Ptasia Wyspa (Bird Island) in the park is the region's largest breeding colony of black-headed gulls, and the total number of common tern nests makes this site unique in Poland. Today, the park continues to evolve, upgrading its recreational infrastructure and introducing new attractions for residents and tourists.
